Image Size & High Resolution
It's very important. We prefer image sizes of 1MB or larger. This allows us to scale the picture to 62.5" for printing. Smaller images will appear fuzzy when we scale the photo up. This referred to as pixelation. Below are samples of this picture scaled up to 90% of what we need. The first is the original at 4.8MB (4,800 KB). The second is a reduced resolution image that was sent via text. It's image size is 366KB.
Professional Photographers will provide images in 2MB plus. Most current smart phones will also take photos in the 1MB or larger range. However sometimes the smart phone will be set to take lower resolution so more photos can be stored on the phone.
Types of Photos
Photos can be portrait & landscape format. We need a photo that is not to closely cropped on the top, bottom, and sides. That allows us to size(scale) the photo appropriately for the HayBoard Banners. Samples are below for both portrait and landscape formats to give you and idea what will work best.
Examples of High vs. Low Resolution
To help you see why High Resolution is Important.
Full Resolution
4.8 MB photo scaled up to 90% needed for a HayBoard Banner. Notice the eyes, teeth, etc. are clear and well defined.
Shop NowLow Resolution from Texting a Photo
This is the same 4.8MB photo scaled to 90%. It was texted from a iPhone 13 (Viaero Carrier) to our landline office phone (Telnyx). The resolution size was reduced to 366KB (8%) to transmit over the cellular texting nextwork.
You can see the pixels (small squares) showing in the eyes. And very apparent in the mouth area.

Perfect Picture!
A portrait format photo. Enough room on the top, bottom, and sides. We scaled the picture so the width was exactly what we needed.
Another Perfect Picture!
A landscape format photo. Enough room on the top, bottom, and sides. We scaled the picture so the height was exactly what we needed.
Almost Perfect Picture!
A landscape format photo. The top is cropped a little to close to the Spencer's head. We made it work by moving the name to the right side. Enough room on the sides. We scaled the picture so the height was exactly what we needed.
An Okay Picture.
A landscape format photo. This photo is bit to close to Spencer's. We made it work but lost the gate he is sitting on.
A Challenging Photo
This photo is too close to Spencer's face. We would need to relocate "The Class of 2025" and Spencer's name. Try to avoid.
